  • A genuine, career-oriented interest in financial services.
Preferred but not required:
  • Banking or financial service industry experience, especially knowledge of small business deposit products.
  • Management consulting experience.

What's in It for You

Challenging role on a sharp, driven team -- the Portfolio Analytics and Optimization team of SBCM is comprised of intelligent and experienced analytics professionals who take a high energy and passionate approach to driving significant growth for our portfolio. The work is challenging, but if you're the person we're looking for, you'll enjoy digging into and mastering a challenge.

Broad, high-level visibility and impact -- the work you do will make an impact on all functional groups within SBCM as well as other areas of Wells Fargo, and often will be presented to our senior executives.

Career development -- it's not unusual for professionals in SBCM to expand their skills and grow into other areas of the Division or throughout Wells Fargo.

Great work environment -- SBCM has built remarkable success by fostering a team-oriented atmosphere that encourages new ideas and active contribution. Wells Fargo's reputation is based not only on leadership in financial services, but also on award-winning employment practices.

Excellent compensation -- in addition to a competitive salary and MBO-based bonus potential, we offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes all you would expect plus a few truly outstanding features, including a generous allotment of paid time off and a 401(k) as well as a cash balance plan.

More About Your Role

Reporting to our Vice President, Portfolio Analytics and Optimization, you will join a team that consists of data and modeling experts who identify trends within our customer base and linked to the macroeconomic environment to better understand, explain, and forecast balances, product mix, product usage, and other key metrics. In addition, the team focuses on transforming this information into strategic insights and action, which may be linked to product pricing, product feature enhancements, marketing opportunities, or other innovations. While SQL or SAS skills could be a plus, your role will focus less on pulling data and more on pulling together analyses in partnership with others on the team. By being the "hub" of key analyses, you can help identify and communicate information that is useful and applicable to various business groups within SBCM and other areas of Wells Fargo.

Your mission will be to uncover the most important insights from trends gleaned from multiple analyses, make the trends pop in meaningful ways, and to translate all that great information into presentations with key takeaways and recommendations to ensure senior management and your business partners leverage it to best advantage. Your activities may include:
  • Conducting portfolio analyses on balance trends, attrition, activation, and usage by product, banker type, and customer segment, as well as driving various analyses related to deposit funds flow trends.
  • Identifying opportunities to apply findings in actionable marketing initiatives and product strategies, and supporting others in SBCM to get those initiatives and strategies implemented.
  • Partnering with team members across Wells Fargo on projects related to small business, such as:
    • deposit balance growth in select banker segments, and
    • activation and utilization for small business products (customer behavior analysis to identify key segments, product strategies to increase usage/balances/product integration, marketing program development and measurement, and more).
  • Creating presentations that explain key analytical findings and resulting strategies, and capably presenting these findings and recommendations to senior management.
  • Driving activation and utilization strategies for products across the deposits spectrum
  • Managing details of your own projects, representing Portfolio Analytics and Optimization on cross-functional teams, and more.

Keys to Success

To excel in this role, you will have a knack for creating stories that succinctly present the most important information from the numbers, how we can explain and understand that information, and what actions it suggests. Your analyses and presentations will make the information "pop." In addition, in order to be an outstanding Portfolio Analytics and Strategy Consultant, you will:
  • Think and communicate in a structured, cut-to-the-chase way.
  • Deal effectively with changing priorities in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment; at any given time you may have five projects underway and the team could get a new project with even greater urgency.
  • Take a team-oriented approach, leveraging your interpersonal skills to build and manage relationships with internal and external partners effectively, including influencing those over whom you have no direct authority.
  • Have a strong desire to share what you know and use that knowledge to drive decisions and action.
If this sounds like the right mix of challenge and opportunity for you, and you meet the minimum qualifications, we want to hear from you!
