Opportunity Snapshot

The insights you uncover in this challenging role will have a significant impact on the multi-billion dollar deposit portfolio of the number one bank to small businesses. You will stretch your analytical skills as a key member of our new Small Business Cash Management (SBCM) Pricing Team and gain broad exposure to diverse areas across Wells Fargo. Your success in this important role will position you well for growth opportunities within SBCM and throughout the corporation.

You'll leverage your expertise in statistical modeling, economics, and (ideally) financial services to analyze our business deposits portfolio and build models that will provide additional insight into the behavior of our small business customers and allow us to more effectively price our deposit products. To be a good fit for this opportunity, you'll have a combination of strong business acumen and technical expertise, and at least five years of relevant experience with pricing strategies, forecasting/planning, and model building.

In Small Business Cash Management (SBCM) we take a high energy and passionate approach to driving significant growth for our portfolio. We are a high performance team focused on customer value, team experience, and the bottom line.

What You'll Bring to the Table

  • 5+ years of relevant experience with financial institutions, or in an industry with similar complex pricing and forecasting needs
  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in economics, statistics or mathematics
  • Experience with statistical modeling software; hands-on experience with SAS is required
  • Proficiency with SQL and advanced Excel tools
  • Strong database programming skills and data manipulation and management capabilities
  • Experience in data mining, regression analysis, forecasting, and model building
  • Proven ability to translate findings into business recommendations and effectively interact with senior management
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple high priority projects simultaneously

What's in It for You

Ground floor opportunity -- rarely does an organization with the size and tenure of Wells Fargo offer a chance to help build a function from the ground up, but as part of our newly formed Small Business Cash Management Pricing & Portfolio Analysis team, you'll be doing just that. As you assist us in defining our niche, implementing new tools, and determining the direction of our analyses, you'll find plenty of room to introduce your ideas for innovation and improvement.

Career development -- it's not unusual for professionals in Small Business Cash Management (SBCM) to expand their skills and grow into other areas of the Division or throughout Wells Fargo.

Great work environment -- SBCM has built remarkable success by fostering a team-oriented atmosphere that encourages new ideas and active contribution. Our reputation is based not only on leadership in financial services, but also on award-winning employment practices.

The "best of two worlds" -- you'll enjoy the entrepreneurial energy of the Small Business group as well as the resources and stability of a financial services leader with more than 150 years of experience.

Pride -- as a leader in financial services for small businesses, Wells Fargo offers one of the most sophisticated and comprehensive lines of small business products and services in the nation.

More About Your Role

The Pricing & Portfolio Analysis team is charged with the high-level goal of transforming data into strategic insights and action. The team is responsible for analyzing and managing portfolio trends and impacts while ensuring that our product pricing strategies are rational and competitive.

Reporting to the Pricing and Portfolio Analysis Manager, your broad mission will be to understand how our deposit portfolio responds to interest rates, competitor rates, macro-economic conditions, and any other identifiable factors impacting small businesses cash flow and investment behavior.. More specifically, this will entail:
  • Leveraging statistical software and data mining skills to analyze the business deposits portfolio to understand overall trends as well as changes impacting only a particular product set or group of customers;
  • Capably drawing conclusions from analysis and describing business implications;
  • Partnering with our regional finance teams to understand local trends in business deposits and regional pricing trends;
  • Supporting weekly pricing decisions throughout the regional banking footprint by providing reporting and recommendations;
  • Creating monthly interest expense and balance forecasts, as well as longer term scenarios, to support the company's planning and forecasting processes; and
  • Assisting in the evaluation of our pricing approach for all SBCM products.
  • Additionally, you'll take part in special and ad hoc projects, especially those involving growth trends related to SBCM products.

Keys to Success

How can we be sure that we are setting the optimum pricing structure? This is a very complicated question, and in addition to performing your work and analysis in an efficient manner, we'll also look for you to add insight and introduce ideas for additional approaches that might better answer this query. Your success will require:
  • Practical business sense -- more than simply handing over the numbers, you'll consider the implications of the results and provide recommendations.
  • Team-player mentality -- we are a high energy, high driving, passionate team focused on customer value, team experience and the bottom line. To be successful in an environment such as ours, you must possess strong communication skills, a willingness to collaborate and "pitch in" where there's a need, and the ability to effectively interact with all levels including senior management.
  • Flexibility -- varying requests for analyses and involvement in a developing department will call upon your abilities to manage multiple competing priorities simultaneously and quickly change direction as new determinations are made.
If this sounds like the right mix of challenge and opportunity, and you meet the required qualifications, we look forward to hearing from you.
